Sports are content that can entertain and keep people entertained beyond national borders. Many Japanese athletes have joined the ranks of the world's top-class athletes, and many international tournaments and international exchange games are now held in Japan, attracting attention.
Even though the tournament is held in Japan, it is not enough to make announcements in Japanese only anymore. It is important to adapt the language and expressions to international standards so that people from overseas can also enjoy the event.

#03

Voice With Knowledge About Sports & International Etiquette

Sports Bilingual MCs are trained to have a proper grasp of the unique rules of the sport, referee signs, and the flow of the game, as well as the skills to broadcast at the right time without disrupting the game.
Furthermore, they are constantly updated with appropriate language based on international social situations. The knowledge and skills of the Sports Bilingual MC can also be applied to business situations, making it a good choice for many business people who need international etiquette.

Allies with the professional Public Address Announcers Organization in the United States

The Association has developed a certification program unique to Japan with the support and guidance of a professional sports public address announcing organization in the United States. We have introduced a unique method that combines the English version of manuscripts with the Japanese method, utilizing our know-how and expertise in a variety of sports.

In particular, from the very beginning of our association, we have been supported by the professional MLB public address announcer as our special advisor.
The field announcement scripts are constantly updated to keep up with current trends and developments. We are constantly receiving guidance from professionals in the U.S. to apply the correct internationally accepted language.

We offer a program designed to provide guidance that does not take twice as long in Japanese as in English for announcements, making matches and events run more smoothly and making announcements that can be easily understood by people from other countries. In addition, the Association has invited Micha Berman*, a professional voiceover artist in the United States as our special advisor to help maintain accuracy and professionalism in your MC training.

Our Background

The success of foreign athletes has become indispensable to sports played in Japan. And thanks to the great success of Japanese athletes overseas, more and more people from overseas are coming to Japan to watch sports games.
This situation has increased the need for public address announcements, MCs, and stadium DJs to be able to make announcements not only in Japanese, but also in multiple languages (especially English).

In 2015, I joined the professional announcers' circle in the U.S., received guidance by professionals accredited by then National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers (NASPAA), and have been building and disseminating our original Japanese-English sports scripts. We have also developed and disseminated original Japanese-English sports scripts.
For the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, I provided a training for English-language announcing to some of the public address announcers. We have actively shared our knowledge of international public address announcing skills in the Japanese sports world.
On February 14, 2022, the trademark registration of "Sports Bilingual MC®"
(Registration No. 6512642) was accepted by the Japan Patent Office.
We are hoping to return this technology to Japan not only in the field of sports but also in a wide range of other fields.

Since many of the phrases used in Sports Bilingual MC are common not only in the field of sports, but also in all types of business, our practical training using our manuals and manuscripts has been highly valued and reviewed by many companies throughout a variety of industries. We also offer a service to create customized bilingual manuals for specific industries and operations, which have been used in many business settings.

MESSAGE

Message from the Representative

About 15 years ago, I started sports public address announcing while also doing my daily work. In Japan, there were no schools that taught public address announcing techniques in English, so I learned the techniques and preparation from the professional PA announcers in the U.S. through my good contacts. In Japan, there is often a lack of English-language announcing in the world of sports, and I hope to elevate the environment and culture surrounding sports in Japan to a higher global standard. At Sports Bilingual MC, we place importance on entertaining both in Japanese and English (bilingual). The beauty of sports is that it can transcend national borders. Through announcing, I sincerely hope to create a world in Japan where people can share the beauty of sports regardless of nationality or language.

I have broadened my world by learning the art of announcing in English. I have learned the beauty of sports, the beauty of announcing, and the joy of creating something together with my teammates. I have also learned how to speak in a way that attracts people, which has been a big plus for my main business. I believe that the knowledge and skills (sports, English, public speaking, international manner, etc.) that can be learned at the Sports Bilingual MC program will help many people expand their possibilities and increase their options for the future. Let's work together to create a future where you can shine brighter and advance your career as you mature and gain experience.

Feeling the potential to further expand

I work mainly as an event MC and a reporter that makes use of my voice. I met Sports Bilingual MC, which provides a learning opportunity to emcee and make public address announcing in English.  I joined Sports Bilingual MC because I thought I could expand my possibilities in the future. I am very happy taking the course because I can acquire knowledge and skills that were difficult to acquire in my usual work alone. I am now excited to take on the challenge of a larger world while making use of my experience.

  • KAWAGUCHI HITOMI

Hitomi has worked as a freelance announcer for more than 10 years, mainly as a stadium announcer and a radio personality. She has over 500 professional and amateur games of baseball announcing experience. In recent years, she has been working as an exclusive announcer for professional independent leagues as well as for Japan PONY Baseball Association, and continues to improve her skills through practice, utilizing her knowledge and know-how as a Sports Bilingual MC.

    Even an English-beginner can grow

I encountered Sports Bilingual MC when I worked at an international baseball tournament, where English was required. At first, I was worried that I would not be able to do it as I did not know any English, but thanks to the support of Ms. Kodemura, the Representative Director, I am gradually realizing my own growth as a Sports Bilingual MC. Every day, I feel that I can still expand my potential through sports, and I am looking forward to my future.
